AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
The focus this week might well be the way that it finished with the Sydney sale operating in isolation. Following a positive lead from South Africa on Wednesday evening, the Sydney sale started positively on Thursday without any major movement. However, as the sale progressed, the better performing wools were looking a good 1% dearer with selected lots even more. The main focus is still 17.0 to 19.0 micron for all types and descriptions. The offering of good fine wool has still been limited so far this year.
The Authentico index values were not as strong as the AWEX EMI might indicate that they should. It was competition from China, buying a lower quality wool type, that dominated this week’s market. The very best types were least affected.

Forecast
It’s a larger national offering in week 16 and we expect an increase in quality fine and superfine wool in Sydney. We expect selected clips 17.0 to 19.0 micron with the best performing wools to remain keenly sought after as well as all certified wool, especially RWS. The premiums for RWS certified wool clips continues to increase with demand outstripping supply.
