AUSTRALIAN WEEKLY MARKET REPORT
Comment
It wasn’t the result that we would have been hoping for with all descriptions easing over the week. Traders are indicating that business is very limited and the large indent operators also slowed down, likely to be linked with a buildup of unsold stocks. The shining light was certainly on the better prepared, certified, high-quality wool 17.0 to 18.0 micron which even tended dearer on Wednesday. Added to this was a much higher passed in rate as growers were reluctant to sell in the falling market. A total of 27% of the national offering failed to sell this week.

Forecast
Growers will be reluctant sellers until the prices settle. They always prefer to sell in a firm or rising market. We expect the national offering to be slightly reduced and passed in rates on the high side. We’re looking for the reduced quantity and the lower price basis to create some new interest in order to stimulate the market. We sell Wednesday and Thursday next week, recognising a public holiday in Victoria on Tuesday.
