Market opens the year dearer.

Comment

North Island only offering 7,015 bales.

Selection consisted of 17% crossbred fleece mostly good colour, 50% crossbred second shear, good colour, 8% crossbred hogget fleece good colour, 12% early season lambs, 13% crossbred oddments.

A very strong market across all types with a lack of supply early in the year.  Good colour shears were especially sought after.  Main buyers were Europe, China and the United Kingdom supported by local Australasian mills.

Crossbred fleece all descriptions 1% dearer.

Crossbred hoggets 2% dearer.

Shears

Crossbred shears good colour up to 5% dearer.

Average colour shears firm.

Oddments

Lambs oddments up to 4% dearer.

Crossbred clothing oddments good/average colour sellers favour.

Crossbred clothing oddments poor colour 8% dearer.

Combing oddments all descriptions firm to sellers favour.

Lambs

New season lambs 1.5% dearer.
